Yes, and it is not a trial. Boards, cards, collaborators, templates and exports are uncapped: no card limit, no watermark, no seat count, no expiry date. The one thing the free plan does not include is hosted file storage, because bytes in a bucket are the only part of this that costs us money per user. Free boards show any image you paste a link to.
Storage. Everything made of database rows is effectively free for us to run and scales with how much you think, so we give all of it away. Files scale with how much you upload, including from someone who signed up to use us as a free image host, so uploads are the one thing you pay for. That is the whole of it.
You drop back to the free plan, which is the whole product. Nothing is deleted, no board becomes read-only, no card is locked and no collaborator is removed. You stop having the Pro tools, and files you already uploaded stay where they are. You can export everything at any point either way.
Pro and Team subscriptions. We would rather you used the product for a year and then paid for the sharper tools than hit a card limit on day two and left with a bad opinion of us. It is a slower business model and we think it is the correct one for something you are meant to keep your work in.
The short version is the free plan. Milanote's free tier stops at 100 notes, images or links across every board you own; ours does not stop. Beyond that we are cheaper monthly, we have roughly three times as many card types, and we have dark mode, freehand drawing, a command palette and JSON export, none of which they offer. They have native mobile apps and a decade of refinement, and we have neither.
Boards are readable and navigable on a tablet. Serious editing wants a pointer and a keyboard, so the desktop browser is the experience we build first and the one we would point you at. There are no native mobile apps.
Yes, in real time, with live cursors and presence. Share a board and pick a role per person: owners and editors change things, commenters can only leave comment cards, and viewers get a clean read-only board. The interface adapts to the role, so nobody is offered a button that will not work.
In Postgres on Supabase, with row-level security on every table, so a query can only ever return rows your account is entitled to. Traffic is encrypted in transit. It is not end-to-end encrypted, which means we hold keys that could decrypt your rows — we would rather write that down than let you assume otherwise.
